Look at us! We have steel going up on our new building!

Despite the miserable weather we have had, we are making progress. It has put our construction project behind schedule but just seeing the steel rise above the concrete was so exciting. I think you might be interested to know that the new building will have a geothermal heating and cooling system. This will greatly cut the cost of heating and cooling the facility. It took 65 wells, each 250 feet deep to form the system we require.

Not only has the weather played havoc with our construction schedule but it has also been unkind to our schedule here. We have been unable to run our buses a total of eight days since the first of the year. The majority of people we serve at ADC are very unhappy when we have to close for snow. And the truth is, it creates problems for their families as well. So we don't make that decision without careful consideration of all concerned. But just as the schools must, we have to ensure the safety of the folks on our buses as well as their safety in and around our parking lots.

I don't know about you but I'm ready for Spring.

Client Connection

This month the spotlight falls on Mary, who is a great asset to the ADC program. Besides having excellent attendance and a good work ethic, Mary brings an attitude of caring to her work. She is always concerned when others have problems and is quick to help out.

One of Mary's co-workers needs help getting on and off the bus everyday and Mary was eager to assume the role of escort. She feels a tremendous responsibility for her co-worker's safety and is very dependable.

Mary was also the first ADC client to make a contribution to our capital campaign! Mary is committed to making ADC a better place.

Volunteer Vision

With a heavy heart, it is sad to report that one of our longtime supporters and ADC Friends passed away last week. We are sad to say goodbye to Vera Heidbreder, and we will miss her dearly. Vera was an instrumental part of the success of ADC's Workshop and Legacy Foundation over many years. She has been a supporter of ADC since her daughter Ann began coming to ADC in 1975.

Vera was SO excited that ADC was going to move into a new building. She understood more than most the desperate need of comfortable and efficient workspace and offices for the staff and clients. She was a significant donor and supporter of ADC's Building a Better Environment Campaign. The reception area of the new campus will be named after Vera.

We will think of Vera often, and have wonderful memories. Her generous and feisty spirit will greet all guests and ADC family members forever.
